AT LONG LAST!

Lacombe selects location for new fire station

May 12, 2026 | 11:10 AM

At long last, Lacombe city council has decided on a location for the community’s fire hall.

At its regular meeting this week, council approved the 4410 Woodland Drive site, and as the city notes in a release, this came after detailed analysis, public consultation, and engagement with fire services personnel.

That includes at the 2026 Lacombe & District Chamber of Commerce Tradeshow and Marketplace, the 2025 Light Up Lacombe Open House at the current fire station, and a survey of fire services members.

“Council carefully considered both community input and operational expertise,” Mayor Thalia Hibbs says in a media release. “Public safety, response times, and the long-term needs of our growing community were central to our decision.”

According to the city, 87 per cent of people who responded at the recent tradeshow identified the chosen site as their preferred option.

Among the reasons: its central location, access to major roadways, and the ability to improve emergency response times.

Fire services are strongly supported the site, the city says,

“This location allows our fire services team to respond quickly and effectively to emergencies,” said Fire Chief Jason Fleming. “It best supports the safety of our residents now and into the future.”

The city has said in past interviews that the new fire station could be open by the end of 2026. At this time, the city has not provided an updated timeline.
