Sutter Fund Chiefs score in OT to stay perfect at Esso Cup
The Red Deer Sutter Fund Chiefs won their fourth straight game with a 3-2 overtime victory on Wednesday.
They defeated the Northern Selects to remain undefeated at the 2026 Esso Cup in Dieppe, New Brunswick, with forward Jensyn Stephenson scoring just 38 seconds into the extra frame.
Stephenson also scored the game-tying goal in the third period when Red Deer trailed their opponents 2-1.
Red Deer’s Ceder Thorburn scored the Chiefs’ first goal of the game while on the power play in the opening period.
Red Deer goaltender Brylee Hull made 22 saves on 24 shots, and Selects netminder Amy Field had 24 saves on 27 shots.
Next up, the Chiefs, who are the only remaining undefeated team left in the tournament, will suit up against the Stoney Creek Sabres on Thursday in their final preliminary game.
Puck drop is set for 11 a.m. Atlantic time or 8 a.m. Mountain Time. The semifinals are set for Friday, followed by the bronze and gold medal games on Saturday.
