Town of Ponoka invites community input on design of improvements to Lions Park

Apr 22, 2026 | 4:58 PM

The Town of Ponoka is inviting residents to provide input on the proposed design for improvements to Lions Centennial Park.

Citizens can give feedback through a survey in multiple ways such as in person at the town’s booth at the Ponoka Community Expo on April 24-25 at the Ponoka Area Complex, online at letstalkponoka.ca, or by paper copy.

The town says the paper copies are available at the Ponoka Aquaplex, Ponoka Arena Complex, and at the town office on the second floor of the Ponoka Civic Centre.

No registration is required to fill out the survey, and officials say it should only take a few minutes to complete.

The public will be able to offer their thoughts until public engagement ends on Sunday, May 24, at 11:59 p.m.

“The proposed conceptual design will revitalize Lions Centennial Park to better serve our community,” said Andrew Jones, manager of parks, recreation, and facilities for the Town of Ponoka, in a media release. “We have received feedback from our citizens over the years asking for improvements to the park. We are excited to launch the design process and to invite community input on this project.”

The current proposed design features the following proposed improvements:

  • Upgraded trails that are easily accessible for people with mobility challenges;
  • Naturalized walkway loops and connection paths;
  • An active recreation zone with the existing splash park, relocated playground and a new adventure park;
  • An additional dock;
  • New barbecue pits, picnic tables with shelters and park furniture;
  • Landscaping and fencing;
  • Public washrooms;
  • New lighting; and
  • Improvements to the existing public parking lot and museum parking lot.

“The proposed upgrades would transform Lions Centennial Park into a revitalized, multi-use public space for gatherings, recreation, events and community connection,” said Jones.

Once the input is gathered, the town says it will create a more detailed design based on the input received.
