Red Deer man sentenced on drug and weapons charges

A Red Deer man accused of fleeing a traffic stop and leaving behind a gun and evidence of drug trafficking has been sentenced to seven years in jail and a lifetime firearm prohibition.  

Corim Conway, 34, was sentenced in Red Deer Court of King’s Bench on April 17, 2026, after pleading guilty to counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a loaded/prohibited or restricted firearm, possession of a prohibited firearm, and operation while prohibited. 

Sixteen other charges against him were previously withdrawn on Nov. 3, 2025. 

It was about 5:25 p.m. on Sept. 21, 2024, when Red Deer RCMP were called to assist local peace officers with an individual who’d fled a traffic stop in south Red Deer. 

Mounties say the suspect left behind a satchel and backpack; alleging a firearm was found inside the satchel, with 534 grams of fentanyl and other apparent drug trafficking-related items inside the backpack. 

As a result of their investigation, Red Deer RCMP arrested the suspect at his home on Sept. 29, 2024, and charged Corim Conway with the following: 

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking 
  • Careless use/storage of a firearm 
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose 
  • Carrying a concealed weapon 
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm 
  • Possession of loaded firearm 
  • Possession of a restricted or prohibited firearm 
  • Possession of firearm with altered serial number 
  • Possession of a weapon contrary to an order x7 
  • Failure to comply with release order x 4 
  • Driving while prohibited
