The sequel, he shares, would be called ‘Rise of the Reapers,’ and focus strongly on the Red Deer Reapers wheelchair rugby team.

“The first film was in the early days of the COVID pandemic, which forced us to stick mostly with individual sports as opposed to group sports like sledge hockey and wheelchair rugby. Many of our sports, such as wheelchair rugby, also encourage and welcome able-bodied athletes. One of the events we hope to film is a ‘Try It Day’ in Banff this July, inviting people with and without disabilities to use a wheelchair rugby chair on accessible concrete paths in the wilderness,” Theelen tells rdnewsNOW.

“I also want to tell the story of Gerry Kress, founder of the Red Deer Reapers, showcasing team members and the tournaments and practices they host. The film will aim to provide an overview of wheelchair rugby in Edmonton, showcasing the ‘Battle of Alberta’ competition within the province. Wheelchair rugby combines the great stories of disabled and able-bodied athletes with the hard-hitting and fast-paced action of rugby.”
