Red Deer sees big drop in unemployment
Of Alberta’s seven economic regions, the Red Deer region has the province’s lowest unemployment as of February.

Leithbridge-Medicine Hat: 6.9%

Camrose-Drumheller: 7.4%
Banff-Jasper-Rocky Mountain House and Athabasca-Grande Prairie-Peace River: 5.5%
Wood Buffalo-Cold Lake: 7.2%
Alberta is also down to 6.3 per cent, from 6.4 per cent in January.
A year ago, Alberta was at 6.8 per cent.
Employment in Alberta overall decreased by 1,800, but is still up by 85,000 from the same time last year, and up 18,500 from Jan. 1, 2026.
Broken down in February, there was a loss of 17,300 full-time jobs, and a gain of 15,400 part-time jobs.
