A family recovery awareness event is being held in Red Deer on April 23, 2026.

Organizers from the Parents Empowering Parents (PEP) Society acknowledge that families are often deeply affected when someone they love is struggling with substance use, and navigating support can feel overwhelming. Officials say this evening offers an opportunity to learn, listen, and connect with others working to support families in the community.

The event includes guest speakers and shared discussion, featuring:

• Dr. Ray Baker, addiction researcher and educator
• Dr. Michael Mulholland, Interim Associate Chief Medical Officer with Recovery Alberta and the Sheldon Kennedy Centre of Excellence
• Dr. Rob Tanguay, physician with Recovery Alberta 
• Mayor Cindy Jefferies 
• Elder Lynn Jonasson will offer a blessing.
