Mar 4, 2026 | 5:48 PM

Ever thought about becoming a firefighter?

If you’re a student who will be in grades 11 or 12, or if you are a member of the public, you are invited to attend an open house for Red Deer Public Schools’ Fire Academy.

The open house runs from 6:30 p.m. onward on March 10 at Fire Station #3 at 100 Lees Street.

Attendees are asked to use on-street parking.

Per RDPSD: “The Fire Academy, a partnership between Red Deer Public Schools and the City of Red Deer Emergency Services, combines classroom learning with real-world, hands-on firefighting training and experience at the City of Red Deer’s Ed Howell Emergency Services training facility. The Fire Academy is a unique opportunity for students to earn high school credits, while gaining accreditation and practical skills that will prepare them for a career in firefighting.’

The Fire Academy launches for the 2026-2027 school year, and applications can be filled out at the open house. The program is capped at 20 students per year to ensure high-quality training.
