Free event in Olds aims to educate small businesses on funding options

Small business owners in central Alberta are invited to attend an event in February focused on discussions around funding options.

The “Money Talks” event is put on by Business Link Alberta in partnership with the Regional Business Support Network, Central Alberta First, and other local community organizations.

It will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 10, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Pomeroy Inn and Suites in Olds, Alta. Those interested in attending can register on eventbrite.ca.

Organizers say the event is meant to help small businesses better understand and access funding.

“At Business Link Alberta, all of our services are free, and our role is to help entrepreneurs understand their options and connect them to the right supports,” said Paul Cataford, Executive Director of Business Link Alberta. “Whether that is funding programs, financing options, or trusted industry partners, we are here to guide business owners so they can make informed decisions with confidence.”

Through the Business Retention Expansion Workforce Development (BREWD) initiative, they found that more than 700 businesses across Central Alberta identified difficulty understanding and accessing funding as a significant barrier to starting, growing, and sustaining their operations.

“This event represents exactly what BREWD is meant to do: listen to businesses and respond with collaborative action,” said Michelle McFadden, small business development advisor with the Regional Business Support Network. “By working together, we are making funding information more accessible and more actionable for businesses across Central Alberta.”
