Olds RCMP seize a firearm, drugs during traffic stop

Olds RCMP arrested a 27-year-old Calgary man following a traffic stop last week, where they seized a firearm, drugs, and other items.

The traffic stop occurred on Nov. 27 at approximately 3:12 a.m. after the police received a report of a potential impaired driver swerving on Highway 2, north of Highway 582.

Olds RCMP responded to the area and found a white Dodge pickup in the ditch, and the driver was detained for an impaired driving investigation.

Police seized the vehicle, and during that process, they located a suspected bag of cocaine as well as scales and Canadian currency. Police also found a concealed loaded firearm on the driver.

As a result, they have charged the man with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, careless use of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, possessing a restricted firearm without a licence, knowingly possessing a weapon without a licence, having a firearm in a motor vehicle, possessing a loaded restricted firearm, and possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking
