Red Deer Symphony Orchestra tuning up for 2025-26 concert series debut

Oct 10, 2025 | 5:11 PM

It’s almost go time for the Red Deer Symphony Orchestra and its 2025-26 season.

If you ask their music director, Claude Lapalme, the first show of the year, on Oct. 18, marks a fresh start.

“We are thrilled to welcome Malena Lorenson back to Red Deer for what promises to be a spectacular season opener,” said Claude Lapalme, who is also the conductor.

“This concert is a true celebration of new beginnings—a powerful tribute to our roots and an exciting look at the future of the RDSO. The combination of John Williams’s Tuba Concerto with the dramatic flair of Tchaikovsky and Rimsky-Korsakov will make for an unforgettable evening.”

The program pairs Lorenson’s stunning solo with Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 2, a big and bold musical statement performed by a bigger and bolder RDSO, the RDSO shares.

Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s thrilling Capriccio Espagnol rounds out the evening, setting the tone for the orchestra’s most creative and thrilling season yet.

Tickets for “A New Beginning” at the RDP Arts Centre are available at rdso.ca, by phone at 403-346-0021, or in person at the RDSO office (#206, 4807 50 Avenue).
