RDP Athletics recap: Sept. 20-21

This past week, the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings Cross Country Running team captured top spot in Lethbridge. The RDP Queens Cross Country Running team finished second. The Queens Soccer team earned a victory in Olds while the Kings and Broncos tied. The Red Deer Polytechnic Rodeo team achieved six top-10 results in Saskatchewan.

Cross Country Running

Running Room Grand Prix #2 | Lethbridge Polytechnic | Saturday, September 20

The Red Deer Polytechnic Cross Country Running team had another impressive performance. The RDP Kings finished first and the Queens solidified second. Japhet Kipkosgei (28:05) finished second and Kohen Meckelborg (31:58), a Bachelor of Business Administration student, placed sixth among ACAC male runners over 8 km. Julianna Chipiuk (26:44), a Bachelor of Science in Nursing student, was second among ACAC female runners over 6 km. Georgia Sawchuk (27:03) wrapped up fourth.

Soccer

Queens Soccer | Olds College of Agriculture & Technology | Sunday, September 21

The RDP Queens (4-1-0) blanked the Broncos (0-5-1) 8-0 in Olds. McKenna Leslie recorded three goals. Sylvan Lake’s Grace Smith (Bachelor of Business Administration) had two. Sein Furuyama, Paige Kalbfleisch and Olivia Lundell added singles. Jana Leskewich (Bachelor of Education) picked up the shutout in the Queens’ net.

Kings Soccer | Olds College of Agriculture & Technology | Sunday, September 21

The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings Soccer team (0-2-3) and Olds College Broncos (0-4-1) played to a 1-1 draw. Edmonton’s Liam Parsons scored the Kings’ lone goal. Emmet Kenwell (Bachelor of Business Administration) made seven saves for the Polytechnic.

Rodeo

Rodeo | University of Saskatchewan Fall Rodeo | Delisle, Saskatchewan | September 20-21

The RDP Rodeo team achieved several top-10 results at the two-day University of Saskatchewan Fall Rodeo in Delisle, Saskatchewan. Kaybree Zunti had an outstanding weekend. She placed first (14.63) in Barrel Racing on Sunday and second (14.64) on Saturday. Zunti finished eighth (12.2) in Goat Tying on the opening day. She solidified fifth (4.7) and ninth (4.3) in Breakaway Roping over two days. Zunti (header) and Tray Hofmann (heeler) from Lakeland College wrapped up fourth (13.2) in Team Roping.
