Sep 22, 2025 | 11:52 AM

This Sunday, Sept. 28, celebrate World Rivers Day at Red Deer’s Fort Normandeau.

The free event is co-organized by the Red Feather Women, Red Deer Indigenous Dance Troupe, Council of Canadians, and Urban Indigenous Voices Society, as well as other local volunteers.

This is the second annual observance of World Rivers Day in Red Deer, with it happening annually on the fourth Sunday of September.

This year, the goals of World Rivers Day are to:

  • unite communities with common interest in the Red Deer River and its watershed
  • reflect on past history and future possibilities
  • appreciate the vital role the Red Deer River plays in our economy, our society, and our personal well-being.
  • music & dance
  • smudge and prayers

The gathering begins at 10 a.m. at the Fort Normandeau boat launch (28054 B Township Road 382).

Attendees are encouraged to carpool as parking is limited.
