Officer given suspended sentence following assault conviction from 2020 arrest
An Alberta RCMP officer charged with assault during an arrest near Lacombe five years ago has been given a suspended sentence.
Cst. Raymond James Wallace, 34, was sentenced in Red Deer Court of Justice on Sept. 17, 2025, after being convicted on one count of assault, while he was found not guilty on a second charge of assault.
The suspended sentence means it will be deferred while Wallace serves eight months of probation. Provided he follows his conditions during that time, he will avoid incarceration despite having a criminal conviction.
It was on March 14, 2021, when the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) was directed to investigate assaults alleged to have occurred during the arrest of individuals by RCMP officers on Nov. 14, 2020, after a vehicle fled police on a road outside of Lacombe.
