Innisfail RCMP arrest high-risk offender after he allegedly fled from police, twice

Sep 4, 2025 | 4:43 PM

Innisfail RCMP have arrested high-risk offender Dakota Caron, 22, who was wanted on outstanding warrants for assault, resisting a police officer, mischief, and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

Mounties allege he failed to appear in court for his drug trafficking charge on three separate occasions and on Aug. 25, police arrested the Innisfail resident.

On that day, an Innisfail RCMP officer had observed the offender walking in the downtown area when it’s alleged Caron attempted to hide behind a vehicle to avoid police.

After police told him he was under arrest for his outstanding warrants, the suspect attempted to flee the area on foot, however, RCMP say he was located trying to hide behind the Coffee Cottage restaurant.

Police attempted to arrest the suspect but allege he struck the officer numerous times and was able to flee on foot a second time towards the Innisfail Legion with officers in pursuit. The suspect entered the legion where he was immediately confronted by Legion staff and subsequently arrested by police.

Caron now faces an additional charge of assault on a police officer.

A judicial Interim release hearing was held and Caron was remanded into custody on his outstanding warrants and his new charge.

He will next appear in court on Sept. 11, 2025, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer.
