Their opponent? The Edmonton Cubs, the same team that defeated Red Deer in the finals four years ago.

“We’re feeling pretty confident and the guys are playing great. We had two really competitive games against the Cubs earlier this year,” he added. “We’re really excited. I think we’ve got the right team to do it so I think we’re happy with where we’re at going into the final.”

Followed by Game 1 in Red Deer, Game 2 will be played in Edmonton Tuesday followed by Game 3 at Great Chief Park Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

If necessary, Game 4 and 5 will be played in Edmonton on Sunday.

The Riggers entered the postseason on quite a run winning seven straight games before losing their final regular season game.

Chatwood explained the team found their groove in July after a tough stretch in June and ended the regular season with an 11-7 record.

“We started hitting and doing all the little things right. We started making plays and the pitchers came out and did their jobs. We kept that momentum going,” Chatwood added.

The winner of the series will represent the province at the 2026 Men’s National Baseball Championships in Chatham, New Brunswick next August.
