Red Deer athlete helps Alberta claim Wheelchair Rugby National Championship

A Red Deer athlete is now a national champion after winning gold with Team Alberta over the weekend at the 2025 Wheelchair Rugby National Championships.
Kim Payzant, who also suits up for the Red Deer Reapers Wheelchair Rugby team, helped Alberta win the title defeating the Ontario Thunder 59-55 on Sunday at the Claude-Robillard Sports Complex in Montreal.
Alberta finished the tournament undefeated beating New Brunswick 50-30, Ontario Lightning 50-37, Quebec 54-51, and B.C. 48-47 over the three-day tournament.
The tournament featured approximately 80 players on eight teams from across the country who faced each other in hopes of claiming the national title.
