Proceeds from sales of Western Family items, May 22-28, to support local food banks

Food banks will benefit this week from an initiative by the four brands of Pattison Food Group retailers — Save-On-Foods. Buy-Low Foods, Nesters Markets, and PriceSmart Foods.

For all sales of Western Family products between May 22 and 28, stores will donated half the net proceeds to their local food bank.

What began as a three-day campaign in 2018 is now an annual, well-established fundraiser to help families, the company says.

Since it launched, the initiative has generated more than $2 million for food banks.

“Western Family is dedicated to providing relief to community food banks who are experiencing an overwhelming demand through their annual share it forward campaign,” said Dan-Huang-Taylor, executive director of Food Banks BC.

“The funds raised through the purchase of Western Family products during the campaign week will directly help those most vulnerable in our communities.”

According to Food Banks Canada, almost one in three food banks ran out of food during the past year, and one-third of users are children.

“All Canadians should have equal access to good food and nutrition,” added Carl Ryan, general manager of private brands at the Pattison Food Group.

“That’s why we created the share it forward campaign, which makes it easy for anyone to help out their neighbours simply by adding Western Family products to your basket during your regular shop from May 22 to 28.”

Save-On-Foods has two locations in Red Deer — 3020 22 Street (East Hill) and 6720 52 Avenue (North Red Deer).

Pattison Media is also part of the Jim Pattison Group.
