The Town of Innisfail announced that Sean Durkin has been selected as the new Chief Administrative Officer (CAO).

He was chosen through an extensive independent executive search and will officially take on the new role on November 16.

Durkin has over 25 years of municipal experience as an employee, CAO, and consultant.

“I am honoured to join the Town of Innisfail as Chief Administrative Officer and grateful to Mayor Barclay and council for their support,” said Durkin in a media release. “I look forward to getting to know the community and working alongside council and staff to build on Innisfail’s strengths. For me, municipal leadership is about people – supporting the team, listening to residents, and turning shared priorities into meaningful results. I am excited to contribute to Innisfail’s future and help ensure it continues to be a place people are proud to call home.”

Town of Innisfail Jean Barclay said they were pleased to have so many strong candidates, which made the final decision difficult.

“We selected Mr. Durkin for his relevant experience in municipal leadership and breadth of understanding the complexities within an urban municipal setting,” Barclay said. “We appreciated his ambition, attention to creating a productive and positive workplace environment, and his professional, outgoing personality.”

He earned a diploma in business marketing from Sheridan College, information technology management from Ryerson Polytechnic University, and MBA essentials of management from Schulich School of Business, York University.

Mayor Barclay underscored council’s gratitude to outgoing CAO Todd Becker for his commitment to Innisfail over the past nine years.
