Sylvan Laker helps Canadian National Blind Hockey Team secure sixth international win

May 6, 2025 | 3:07 PM

Sylvan Laker Tristan Lindberg was one of five Alberta Blind Hockey players to participate in the 2025 International Blind Ice Hockey Series and help secure Canada’s sixth consecutive win over the US during the April 25-27 event.

It was truly a team effort, as every skater recorded at least one point in the best of three series.

Assistant captain Jason Yuha, of Rosalind, Alta., led the tournament in goals and points, scoring nine goals and five assists in three games.

The Canadian goalies only let in three goals in the three games, including a shutout in game three.

Other Alberta players included Liam O’Callaghan, Dante Giammarioli, and fully blind goalie Lorne Webber, all from Edmonton.

Games from the tournament are viewable on YouTube.

The para sport blind hockey is played by athletes who are blind or partially sighted using an adapted puck that’s larger than the traditional model and makes more noise. At the international level, players must be classified under the same system used in the Paralympics and have 10 per cent vision or less.

Only Canada and the U.S. currently have national teams, however, Canadian Blind Hockey is working with international partners in an effort to grow the game.
