Blackfalds town council approves floating property tax rate for 2025

Apr 24, 2025 | 11:41 AM

Blackfalds’ town council has approved the 2025 Property Tax Rate Bylaw at a floating rate, which is determined by the increase seen in property assessments.

The 2025 assessments (based on 2024) showed that in the area of inflation, the residential tax based increased by $82.9 million or 6.11 per cent due to increasing property values. Non-residential property values, on the other hand, only increased $4.3 million or 2.42 per cent.

Council has determined residential properties that increased up to 6.11 per cent will see a 5.0 per cent increase to the municipal portion of their bill, while those that increased more than 6.11 per cent will see more than a 5.0 per cent increase. This is a floating rate, which considers inflationary and deflationary factors.

Overall, this will result in the town collecting, on average, 5.0 per cent more municipal taxes than it did in 2024.
