Lacombe city council has approved an update on the 2024 strategic plan, which highlights the success and status of council priorities over the current term.

As a result, council completed six out of 14 green high priority items last year with two more set to be completed in 2025. The rest deemed green high priority items are currently ongoing initiatives.

“Council is pleased to receive the final Strategic Plan Update of the current term,” said Mayor Grant Creasey, in a media release. “This document is a testament to hours of work from city staff, our community partners and individuals all across our province. I am proud to say the majority of council’s priorities (62%) were realized, with many more initiatives to be completed in the coming years.”

In addition, 76 out of 123 items included in the strategic plan were completed with 17 in 2024, 33 in 2023, and 26 in 2022.

The completion percentage of tasks based on identified Council Priorities in the original Strategic Plan include:

  • Growing the Community – 62 per cent completed
  • Managing the Community’s Resources – 55 per cent completed
  • Supporting the Community – 66 per cent completed
  • Building the Community – 64 per cent completed

The high-priority tactics in the plan includes advocating for the further expansion of the Lacombe Lodge and further collaborating with the Downtown Area Redevelopment Committee to implement recommended projects.

It also includes updating the City’s Municipal Development Plan and Area Structure Plans to attract and retain investment; building a new public works facility; building a new fire hall; continuing to fund road maintenance sustainably; and strengthening community partnerships to expand recreation and social offerings in the community.
