A trial date has been set for a local man charged in a pair of incidents involving a knife in downtown Red Deer last year.

Drake Edward Davidson, 19, of Red Deer, is scheduled for trial in Red Deer Court of Justice on June 2, 2025.

He faces counts of assault with a weapon, assault, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose in regards to the May 21, 2024, incident.

According to Red Deer RCMP, at 11:45 a.m., officers responded to a report of a downtown pedestrian being chased by a man with a knife along 58 Street. No injuries were reported, however.

Then, at 12:41 p.m. Red Deer RCMP received a report that a bus driver was assaulted at Sorensen Station.

According to RCMP and victim statements, the suspect was acting belligerent and was asked to leave the bus. He allegedly became agitated and tried to attack the driver with a knife but was unsuccessful.

When RCMP arrived, they say the suspect attempted to flee on foot before being apprehended and arrested. Mounties say the driver did not suffer any life-threatening injuries.

Davidson faces seven counts in relation to that incident including:

  • Assault with a weapon
  • Cary concealed weapon
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Threats causing death/bodily harm
  • Cause disturbance by screaming
  • Resisting a peace officer
  • Assault causing bodily harm

Davidson’s charges on those matters are scheduled to return to Red Deer Court of Justice on Aug. 12, 2025.
