The Town of Sylvan Lake announced after an extensive search they’ve hired Dawn Phillips as the new Chief Administrative Officer (CAO).

Phillips, who’s currently the CAO for the Town of Smoky Lake in Northern Alberta, accepted the job and is set to begin her new role on April 1.

“I am very excited for my move to Sylvan Lake,” Phillips said in a media release. “I am passionate about municipal government and community and am very much looking forward to becoming a part of the team at the Town of Sylvan Lake.”

She brings nearly 30 years of experience working in municipal governments, serving in leadership roles in various municipalities including the Town of Smoky Lake, Athabasca County, Taber, and Camrose.

Part of her variety of roles included everything from overseeing recreation, parks, emergency management, fire, FCSS and much more.

“Council is extremely excited to welcome Dawn to Sylvan Lake,” said Mayor Megan Hanson.

“We had an impressive number of applications for this position, with many highly qualified candidates, but council is confident that Dawn’s experience and leadership will be an excellent fit for our organization and community. We are thrilled to welcome Dawn’s steady leadership and wealth of knowledge to our team, and we look forward to the contributions she will make to our already strong organization.”

The Town had been looking for a new CAO since October after Sean Durkin announced he was leaving the organization. After he stepped down, Sean McIntyre served as the former acting CAO and most recently, Betty Osmond as the current interim CAO.
