New family doctor working at Delburne Medical Centre

Alberta Health Services has announced a new family doctor has arrived in central Alberta.

Dr. Ignacio Del Papa, who’s now working out of Delburne Medical Centre and Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, earned his medical education at the University of Buenos Aires. He most recently practised in Argentina before moving to Canada.

Officials say he moved to a smaller city to embrace a slower pace of life. In his free time, he enjoys playing soccer, tennis, and board games with his family.

“Having the opportunity to work in a small community, where you have the chance to really know your patients, has only increased my desire to work here,” he said in a media release.

Individuals needing a family doctor can call 403-749-3939 to arrange a meet-and-greet appointment.

“Family doctors are vital to the health of Alberta families and communities,” said Adriana LaGrange, Minister of Health, and MLA for Red Deer-North. “Dr. Del Papa is a welcome addition to Red Deer, and he is sure to be a great asset to our community and the surrounding area.”

“Red Deer is the third largest city in the best province in Canada,” added Jason Stephan, MLA for Red Deer-South. “It is good to see medical professionals coming to Red Deer to serve families and individuals in our wonderful community.”

Alberta Health Services (AHS) says it continues to recruit for physicians across the Central Zone to meet community needs. AHS has physician resource planners who are dedicated to identifying and pursuing international and domestic physician recruitment opportunities. They work closely with various community partners and organizations, such as the Rural Health Professions Action Plan, and independent physician recruitment and retention committees.
