The Government of Alberta has released a wrap-up of the road and bridge projects it completed in 2024, including $45.8 million worth of intersection and grade improvements and culvert replacements along 86 kilometres of highway in central Alberta.

Some of the improvements included:

  • Approximately 20 km paved between highways 2A and 547 near the Town of Olds ($6.5 million). This included paving Highway 2A from north of 68 Street in Olds to Highway 587 in the Town of Bowden, plus a culvert replacement on Highway 2A near 17 Avenue.
  • Approximately 55 km milled and paved on Highway 14, between Highway 610 (east of Wainwright) to the Saskatchewan border. At $21.2 million, this project also included improvements at Highway 14 and the Mobile Inspection Station, and at the intersection of Highways 17 and Highway 17 South. This project also included grade improvements at the intersection of Highway 14 and Range Road 30.
  • About 15 km of Highway 12 between Highway 815 and Highway 50 was paved, as well as 16 km of Highway 835 between Erskine and Rochon Sands ($11.9 million).

During the entire 2024 construction season, Alberta invested $818 million into more than 200 projects across the province.

“These projects are about improving safety and saving time for drivers commuting to work, taking kids to practice or just enjoying the beauty of our province,” said Devin Dreeshen, Minister of Transportation and Economic Corridors.

The 2024 construction season included new and ongoing major road projects, such as repaving, bridge rehabilitation and replacement, slide repairs, road expansion and water management infrastructure projects. General maintenance work included pothole repairs, crack sealing, line painting, grading gravel roads and guardrail installation.
