Sylvan Lake passes OHV bylaw, trial season begins

Dec 3, 2024 | 2:44 PM

Sylvan Lake town council has passed second and third reading of the Off Highway Vehicle (OHV) Bylaw during its Nov. 25, regular meeting, and it is now actively in a trial period.

Town officials ask Lakers to remember the following details before use:

  • OHV’s are only permitted from December 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025.
  • They may only be operated between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.
  • OHV’s are not permitted on any pathways in Sylvan Lake.

Residents are also encouraged to read through the bylaw to understand all the important details related to using OHV’s in the town.

The town says the use and impacts of this bylaw will be monitored closely by administration and council throughout the season. Council is expected to review the bylaw in the spring with a focus on the impact to the community, including enforcement complaints and reliance on enforcement resources.

Lakers are encouraged to share any feedback, concerns, and suggestions during this period through the town’s contact form. They can also ask questions and learn more on the town’s website.

First reading of the bylaw was passed on Aug. 26, 2024.
