Lacombe city council approved a Social Needs Assessment and Prioritization Final Report at their regular council meeting on Monday.

The report outlines a summary of initiatives based on community social priorities found in the first phase of the project.

Meanwhile, Phase two gave a voice to the communities short, medium, and long-term goals. The phase also develops municipal actions intended to affect those goals, and identifies benchmarks or measures of success.

“Council is pleased to adopt the Final Report of the Social Needs Assessment and Prioritization Report,” Mayor Grant Creasey said.

“Ensuring Lacombe’s enviable quality of life applies to all residents is one of the City’s strategic priorities. By creating clear metrics of success, we will have a roadmap to our community’s social success.”

Among the top priorities identified in Phase One includes community action on mental health and addictions, community support for families, getting around and community access, healthy homes and neighborhoods.

The Phase One report made note of the community’s assets and strengths including strong support networks and volunteerism; inclusive and accessible services; physical and social gathering spaces; active community programs; and community inclusivity and support.

Phase two involved engagement over the summer which included a community survey. It also took into account a community conference, participation at the Fall Active Living Fair, and a presentation of the draft final report to the Lacombe & District Family and Community Support Services Board on Oct. 16.
