Halloween happenings in the Red Deer area

Whether you’re hoping to get scared, binge on candy, or create a fun family memory this Halloween, Red Deer and the surrounding areas have you covered with a variety of spook-tacular events to choose from.

October 25

  • Family Fright Night at the Historic Fort Normandeau: Meet the ghosts of Red Deer’s past, play games, and win prizes at this family-friendly event, running 5:30-7 p.m. All ages are welcome and costumes are encouraged. Pre-registration is required by 4:30 p.m. on October 23, and tickets are $5 per person and free for children ages two and under.
  • Haunted Heritage Ghost Stories at the Historic Fort Normandeau: Take a jump-scare filled walk through the Fort grounds after dark. This event runs from 8-9:30 p.m. and is designed for ages 14 and up. The cost is $5 per person, and pre-registration is required by Oct. 23 at 4:30 p.m.
  • Youth Night Surf n’ Turf, Halloween Edition, at the Collicutt Centre: From 6-9 p.m., the water park will be transformed into a minion wonderland, including minion-themed games. In the field house, attendees can try out the Adrenaline Rush inflatable bouncer, play basketball or badminton, or check out the dance party. Participants are encouraged to dress up for all activities, and the tickets are $5 for children 8-12, $6.90 for youth ages 13-17, or free with a Recreation All Access Pass.

October 26

  • Howl-o-ween Party with the Next Chapter Animal Rescue: Head to Klassic Kennels from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with your four-legged friend for a costume photo contest and fundraiser. Attendees can bring a costume for their dog, or borrow one from the Rescue. Cost to attend and to participate in the photo contest is per dog, with all proceeds going to the Rescue.   • RDPL Star Wars Reads Day, Halloween edition: Head to the Dawe Library Branch, costumes encouraged, to enjoy activities, crafts, and prizes from 1-2:30 p.m. All ages are welcome, although children under nine must have adult supervision.
  • Blackfalds Community Centre Monster Bash: From 1-3 p.m., come in your best costume to take advantage of a candy buffet, dance to the Monster Mash and other Halloween hits, and enjoy some spooky entertainment. Tickets are $10 and available online.
  • Kids Cookie Decorating Workshop at the Parkland Nurseries and Garden Centre: From 1-3 p.m., register and drop-in to decorate and take home Halloween cookies. Each child will get two cookies, tickets are $5, and you can register online or by calling 403-346-5613.
  • Movie Night with Cats, Halloween edition, with the Next Chapter Animal Rescue: Bring a blanket or chair for a viewing of Casper at Klassic Kennels (upstairs) at 7 p.m. A prize for best costume will be awarded at the end of the movie. There will be popcorn, candy, and beverages available for purchase, and tickets are $5. All proceeds benefit the Rescue.

October 30

  • Halloween Spooktacular at the RDPL Timberlands Branch: Enjoy some stories, a puppet show, and a “BOOtiful” craft. Attendees are asked to register the number of children attending.

October 31

  • Halloween Party at the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame: For $10 per family of four, attendees can enjoy games, treats, and activities perfect for younger children and toddlers from 1-3 p.m. There will be a costume contest and prizes, easy crafts, and more to keep the family entertained.
