Maskwacis school commission publishes Nehiyawewin books to prep students for school
The Maskwacis Education Schools Commission (MESC) has published five new books designed to foster language development in Nehiyawewin and prepare students for the routines of school life.
In addition to the skills shared, the books are said to be a step to ensuring that Maskwacis students see themselves reflected in their literature.
“These books will be valuable resources in our schools and libraries, helping to nurture a strong sense of Nehiyaw language and identity for our students,” shared Jolene Rain, Coordinator of Nehiyawewin.
The creations are a result of collaboration between the MESC Curriculum Department and community members. The books feature families from Maskwacis pictured in the stories, making them true reflections of the community.
