Grizzlys’ Fischer named AJHL Defensive Player of the Week

A member of the Olds Grizzlys is included in this week’s (Sept. 23-29) AJHL Player of the Week awards.

Aidan Fischer, a goaltender for Olds, posted a 2-0 record including a shutout at the AJHL Showcase in what were his first games with the club and in the AJHL. That was enough to earn him AJHL Defensive Player of the Week.

The 2005-born netminder first made 38 saves for the shutout over the league’s newest franchise, the Devon Xtreme. He was also named player of the game.

Fischer, who is from North Vancouver, then made 20 saves on 21 shots faced in a 6-1 win over the Bonnyville Pontiacs.

Fischer, formerly with the BCHL’s Cowichan Valley, ended the week with a .938 SV%.
