Rocky Mountain House man arrested in Red Deer with stolen vehicle

Sep 26, 2024 | 7:05 AM

A Rocky Mountain House man is facing charges after he was arrested, allegedly in possession of a stolen vehicle while in Red Deer.

Red Deer RCMP say it was back on July 25 when members were making patrols and observed an SUV that had been reported to police as stolen. At the time, it was being driven by an unknown male.

RCMP Police Dog Services deployed a tire deflation device and police followed the vehicle until it entered a ditch.

The male suspect is said to have exited the car and started running. With assistance from Blackfalds RCMP, the man was arrested shortly thereafter.

Sheldon Cardinal, 41, has been charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime x3
  • Resist peace officer
  • Fail to comply with release order x4

Following a Judicial Interim Release Hearing, Cardinal was remanded in custody to appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer. His latest appearance was scheduled for September 25.

“Red Deer RCMP remains fully committed to building safe communities and enforcing laws to the fullest extent,” RCMP say.

“Red Deer RCMP Crime Reduction Team is committed to reducing crime in Red Deer and encourages members of the public to report their concerns, as the information provided to police is instrumental in maintaining safety in the community.”
