Apr 23, 2024 | 11:00 AM

A trial date has been set for an employee of a care facility in Didsbury following accusations of abuse.

Maximino Mendoza Garcia, 49, a resident of Didsbury, is scheduled for trial in Didsbury Court of Justice on Oct. 3, 2024.

Didsbury RCMP say it was Nov. 7, 2023, when they received a report alleging physical abuse of a senior at a local residential care facility. Mounties say their investigation suggested an 87-year-old victim had been physically assaulted by a care worker at the facility between September 2021 and August 2022.

On Nov. 8, 2023, Maximino Garcia, an employee at the facility since 2014, was arrested and charged with assault.

Garcia was released from police custody by a Justice of the Peace on several conditions to ensure the safety of the victim.

The investigation remains active and police are looking for additional victims. If you have any information regarding this criminal offence or have information regarding additional victims, you are encouraged to contact Didsbury RCMP at 403-335-3382.
