Blackfalds adds two electric vehicle charging stations

Feb 2, 2024 | 4:27 PM

The Town of Blackfalds has unveiled two new electric vehicle charging stations.

One station is Level 3 (5018 Waghorn St.) and the other is Level 2 (Highway 2A and Park Street).

The Level 3 charging station at the Civic Centre costs $20/hour, while the other is free.

“Council recognizes that there is an increasing need for EV infrastructure to support the growing number of electric vehicles in Blackfalds, including our new enforcement vehicle, and we want to support electric vehicles that visit our community,” shared Mayor Jamie Hoover.

“We took advantage of a grant that allowed us to add new EV charging stations at central locations in town, and we have looked at other locations that will be appropriate for this infrastructure in the future. This will be an ongoing initiative.”

The stations come at a cost of about $63,000 to the municipality, with another $50,000 coming from grants.

Funding for this project was provided by the SouthGrow Regional Initiative (SGRI) in partnership with the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre (MCCAC) and Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) through the Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP).

The EV charging stations are functional and ready for use. More information can be found on the Flo website.
