Head-on collision claims life of Red Deer woman

A Red Deer woman is dead and a Red Deer man seriously injured following a crash on Highway 9 east of Beiseker, AB, Tuesday evening.

On Jan. 2, 2023, at 10:38 p.m. Airdrie RCMP received a report of a two-vehicle collision on Highway 9 east of Range Road 252. Upon arrival, officers observed that a passenger car had a head-on collision with a semi tractor trailer.

Mounties say the driver of the car, a 39-year-old male resident of Red Deer, was taken to hospital by EMS with serious life-threatening injuries. The passenger in the car, a 51-year-old female resident of Red Deer, was deceased.

RCMP remained on scene for several hours investigating the collision.

Although early in the investigation, RCMP say they have been able to determine that the passenger car was driving eastbound in the westbound lane when it was struck by the oncoming semi. Fog was said to be heavy at the time of the collision and may have been a factor, say police.
