“Each year we’re blown away by the support that we receive through this fundraiser whether it’s by bidding, creating a wreath, sharing it on social media, or simply just bringing awareness by informing others. We are so appreciative of all the hard work, time, and creativity that goes into this fundraiser by the businesses and organizations and the community just taking time to even go and look on the online website. It means a lot to us,” she said.

For example, the Blackfalds’ Family & Community Support Services (FCSS) has a wreath valued at $200 that contains family date night activities with $150 in gift cards for Boston Pizza and Dads Day Off, tickets to a Blackfalds Bulldogs game, and a free family skate and one day admission to the Abbey Centre.

“When they’re bidding on the wreaths, it’s a wreath that really speaks to them and also just community connection. It’s advertising for those businesses and organizations in our communities and just bringing awareness that these organizations and businesses do exist; go check them out,” she said.

All proceeds stay local toward the Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring programs which include community-based, in-school, site-based, teen, Kids & Kops, and group mentoring. The programs serve youth in the Lacombe, Blackfalds, Bentley, Eckville, Clive and Alix.

In 2023 alone, the mentoring programs have served over 400 children and youth.

“We see so many youth that could use just that extra support and mentor in their life so just being able to connect the youth with an individual in the community to get out and engage in like-mind activities and just provide them with a friend,” she said.

The goal this year is to raise $6,000 and so far, the top bids add up to $5,225 raised.

The artificial 36-inch wreaths are on display at both the Lacombe Memorial Centre (5214 50 Ave.) and the Abbey Centre in Blackfalds (4500 Womacks Rd.).

Interested participants can bid on the wreaths on the online auction website.
