Ronald McDonald House in Red Deer holds annual “Light the House” ceremony next week

Creating a holiday experience for families with a child in the hospital is no small feat; but Red Deer’s Ronald McDonald House will be bringing a bit of magic next week to those staying with them.

On December 1 from 4:30 – 6 p.m., Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) will be hosting their annual “Light the House” ceremony across the province, turning on their holiday lights as a celebration for the families and neighbours staying at the House (5002 39 St.).

Officials say the Houses have been outfitted with a various array of lights and decorations from donors and volunteers in the community.

Each House has different activities for families and community members, ranging from visits from Santa Claus to special dinners, and holiday themed activities.

The House provides a home-away-from-home to hundreds of families each year who need to travel for their child’s vital medical treatment. By enabling families to stay together, in close proximity to a hospital, RMHC aims to vastly improve the quality and experience of the child’s care and the wellbeing of the family, while reducing the family’s stress, sense of isolation, and financial burden.
