Olds College Broncos to Make Some Noise for Mental Health

The Olds College Broncos are thrilled to participate in the ninth annual “Make Some Noise for Mental Health” campaign, presented by Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) and hosted by the Alberta Colleges Athletics Conference (ACAC).

College officials say this initiative is dedicated to raising awareness and support for mental health and is designed to bring together students, athletes, and their communities.

“The Make Some Noise for Mental Health campaign is one of the most important initiatives we participate in each year. Mental health continues to be a prominent struggle for student-athletes, and anything we can do to bring awareness and help students feel comfortable talking about their mental health is vital.” says Trina Radcliffe, Manager of Athletics.

The Broncos kicked off their “Rockstar” themed campaign with an exciting Athletes March across the campus of Olds College of Agriculture & Technology on Tuesday, Oct. 17.

Officials say this event sets the stage for a series of exhilarating activities focusing on mental health and wellness.

The Broncos Rodeo Team is at the forefront of this lineup, as they host a Canadian Colleges Rodeo Association (CCRA) rodeo on Oct. 21 and 22 at the Brawn Arena.

The schedule for this two-day event is as follows:

Saturday: Slack at 10 a.m.

Saturday: Performance #1 at 6:30 p.m.

Sunday: Performance #2 at 9 a.m.

Soccer enthusiasts can catch the Broncos in action in their last home game of the regular season as they take to the pitch on Richardson Pioneer Field. They face off against the Ambrose University Lions on Sunday, Oct. 22, with the women’s game at noon and the men’s game at 2 p.m.

The Broncos women’s hockey team face off against the NAIT Ooks in an electrifying showdown at the Olds Sportsplex on Thursday, Oct. 26, at 7 p.m.

Basketball enthusiasts can mark their calendars for their home opener game against the SAIT Trojans on Friday, Oct. 27, at the Ralph Klein Centre.

Volleyball fans won’t be disappointed either, as the Broncos go head-to-head against the SAIT Trojans on Saturday, Oct. 28, at the same venue.Women’s games at 6 p.m. and men’s games at 8 p.m. for both sports.

It is notable, say College officials, that, as part of their ongoing commitment to mental health, the Broncos earned the $1,000 prize for second place during last season’s campaign. Those monies were allocated to on-campus projects aimed at enhancing students’ mental health.

To help raise extra funds this year, rock star-themed mental health stickers will be available for purchase by donation at each game. Money raised from these sales will go towards on-campus mental health initiatives.

Game attendees are encouraged to put on their best rock star attire, bring their noise makers and get ready to make some noise for mental health.
