Red Deer RCMP arrest two, lay property-related charges

Red Deer RCMP have arrested and charged a man from Red Deer with several property-related offences.

On Sept. 6, 2023, members were conducting covert surveillance when they observed an allegedly stolen vehicle being driven in Red Deer.

Members followed the vehicle to a local business where the driver was arrested. The vehicle was confirmed to have been stolen out of Blackfalds on Aug. 29, 2023.

The man charged is 51-year-old Jason Lafferty of Red Deer, who faces the following counts:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Possession of a controlled substance
  • Obstruction of a police officer
  • Driving without insurance
  • Driving without vehicle registration
  • Driving without a driver’s licence
  • Displaying an unauthorized licence plate

Lafferty was remanded and appeared in court Sept. 7. He has since been released with a court date of Dec. 22.

During the investigation, police encountered a 21-year-old Red Deer resident, Latisha Dunlop-Perrault. Dunlop-Perrault was arrested on outstanding warrants out of Oyen and Red Deer.

Charges against her in relation to this incident are pending, RCMP confirm.

Dunlop-Perrault was released to appear in court on Sept. 27 in Hanna and then Sept. 28 in Red Deer. A court date for her pending charges is yet to be set.
