This Week in Red Deer Polytechnic Athletics

Sep 20, 2023 | 5:01 PM

It is a very quiet week inside Red Deer Polytechnic Athletics with just two regular season games on the schedule.

The Queens will look to get back into the win column this Saturday afternoon with a matchup against the Ambrose University Lions in Red Deer. The Kings will look for their first win of the season as they host the Lions in their home opener at 2 p.m.

This will be the final week for the Kings and Queens Soccer Vacation Raffle. The lucky winner will win a $4000 Luxury Escape travel voucher. The funds from this raffle will go towards athletic scholarships and helping the two teams offset the costs of non-conference travel.

Please refer to the details below for more information regarding the two regular season matches happening this weekend.

Queens (2-2-0) vs Ambrose University Lions (0-4-0)

• • Saturday, September 23 | 12 pm in Red Deer

The Queens will be looking to bounce back and get into the win column following a tough 4-1 defeat to the SAIT Trojans on Sunday. Their opponent will be the struggling Ambrose University Lions who currently sit in last place in the South Division with an 0-4 record.

The Polytechnic sits tied for third place with six points but they fall in fourth place officially with the goals-for-goals-against tiebreaker going in favour of the Medicine Hat College Rattlers

The game will kick off at noon on Saturday, September 23 at the RDP Soccer Field.

The women will follow this match-up with a bye on Sunday.

Kings (0-2-1) vs Ambrose University Lions (1-2-0)

• • Saturday, September 23 | 2 pm in Red Deer

The Kings will be looking to get into the win column for the first time this season with a match-up lined up against the Lions. But it will not be easy. The Lions have been playing some of the best soccer in their school’s history. They only have one win, but all matches were settled with a two-goal or less differential including a 2-0 loss to the Trojans in their season opener.

This will be the Kings home opener which will be part of a five-match homestand. These matches will include welcoming the Olds College Broncos, Medicine Hat College Rattlers, Lethbridge College Kodiaks and the SAIT Trojans.

The Kings currently sit in fifth place out of six teams with the Lions sitting in third place with just three points.

Saturday’s match against the Lions will kick off around 4 pm following the conclusion of the Queens match.
