National parks open and free for wildfire evacuees

Aug 24, 2023 | 10:49 AM

Wildfire evacuees from the Northwest Territories and British Columbia are being allowed to enter and stay in national parks in B.C. and Alberta for free until evacuation orders are lifted.

Parks Canada says its campgrounds are extremely popular and that free stays, including roofed accommodation in some places (such as oTENTiks), are based on availability, on a first-come, first-served basis.

The agency is encouraging wildfire evacuees and other visitors to check its website or app before travelling.
