Two years in jail for man charged in Ponoka robbery
A man charged in a pair of Ponoka robberies earlier this year has been sentenced to two years in jail and given a 10-year firearms prohibition.
Matthew George Omeasoo, 27, of no fixed address, was sentenced in Ponoka Court of Justice on July 21, 2023 after being convicted on one count of robbery. Three other counts against him were withdrawn.
It was on Jan. 16, 2023, when Mounties say they received a report of a male shoplifting at a store. When confronted, it was alleged the male assaulted the staff member.
On Jan. 17, 2023, RCMP stated they received a report of a male seen shoplifting from a different store and when confronted, the male was said to have produced a knife and left.
