Habitat for Humanity breaks ground on 50th home in central Alberta
Habitat for Humanity Red Deer celebrated on Wednesday, breaking ground on what will be its 47th, 48th, 49th and 50th homes in central Alberta.
The homes are located in Red Deer’s growing Evergreen neighbourhood in the northeast, with a projected possession date for families in spring 2024.
“Building 50 homes in central Alberta is an incredible milestone achievement for all of us at Habitat Red Deer,” says CEO Karen Vavrek. “Since our beginnings in 1994, we have served nearly 60 families in need of affordable housing with build projects in six different Central Alberta communities. We are pleased to be building again in Red Deer, where the need for affordable homes continues to increase exponentially. Working together with our donors, volunteers and community partners, we can all help to address the housing crisis.”
The Government of Canada is contributing $200,000 to this project through its National Housing Co-Investment Fund, helping Habitat for Humanity towards its goal of creating 1,117 new affordable homes in Canada in the next year.
