RCMP efforts highlight importance of National Impaired Driving Enforcement Day

2On May 20, Blackfalds RCMP conducted joint check stops and roving patrols with peace officers as part of National Impaired Driving Enforcement Day.

“Impaired driving is the leading cause of criminal death in Canada,”says Cpl. Dallas Trail, Blackfalds RCMP. “Although we are proud of our enforcement successes, it reminds us that impaired driving continues to be an issue in our community.”

As a result of these enforcement efforts, officers issued:

· 24 hour suspensions (x3)

· Immediate Roadside Sanctions (x2)

· 1 Commercial driver 3 day suspension

· 1 GDL Novice driver suspension due to alcohol

· Multiple violations under the Traffic Safety Act

· Multiple transport open alcohol tickets

Aroun Alberta, RCMP conducted 140 check stops, removing 215 impaired drivers from the road.

RCMP note that if caught while impaired, a first offence, a driver could face a 90-day licence suspension, one year of ignition interlock, a 30-day vehicle seizure, $1,000 fine, and criminal charges.
