AltaLink performing aerial patrols of electric transmission facilities in the area this week

Residents and businesses in southern and central Alberta are being advised that AltaLink will be using a helicopter to perform an aerial patrol of its electrical transmission facilities in the area.

The electricity transmission provider says the patrols will start on May 8 and are expected to be complete by May 12, weather permitting.

The company says this annual patrol provides them with a visual inspection of its transmission lines and surrounding vegetation to help maintain the reliability of the grid through proactive maintenance.

The following communities may see a helicopter in the area:

  • Red Deer/Red Deer County
  • Lacombe/Lacombe County
  • Rimby
  • Ponoka
  • Rocky Mountain House
  • Sundre
  • Rocky View County
  • Airdrie
  • Balzac
  • Janet
  • Langdon
  • Crossfield
  • Foothills County
  • Okotoks
  • High River
  • Diamond Valley
  • Blackie
  • Cochrane
  • Canmore
  • Banff
  • Lake Louise
  • Kananaskis

“In advance, AltaLink apologizes for any disturbance or inconvenience to residents in the vicinity of the power lines that will be patrolled. When conducting aerial surveys, AltaLink is mindful to minimize disruption to residences, area users, livestock and wildlife. Thank you for your patience and understanding,” said AltaLink officials in a release.
