Officials say the program is for current dancers in Grades 6-8 who want to take their technique and performance to the next level, supporting dancers of all abilities to enhance their current practice.

The District explains that the vision of the Academy of Dance is to enhance arts opportunities already offered within Red Deer Public while allowing students to more fully explore an area of passion during their school day.

They say the Academy of Dance, costing $1,500 per student for the school year, will be housed out of Westpark Middle School, and students will train at facilities at Red Deer Polytechnic. As with Red Deer Public’s other Academy programs, they state students will experience a double block of dance, every second day, for the whole year which will count as their Physical Education.

RDPSD says students will have the opportunity to experience a variety of dance styles including Ballet, Jazz, Tap and Contemporary/Lyrical.
