Cell tower complete and operational in northeast Red Deer

The latest Telus cell tower in northeast Red Deer is officially complete and operational, according to the company.

Chelsey Rajzer, Telus’ Senior Communications Manager, Public Relations, says construction of the tower was completed at the beginning of the year and the site has been live since January 6.

The tower is located near the existing cell tower at Fire Station No. 4 (406 Townsend St).

Rajzer says the company conducted signal strength tests on Wednesday for the new tower, which have shown strong cellular connectivity in the Deer Park North East, Rosedale Estates, Timberstone Park, Clearview Ridge and the Timberland areas. She says the tower will provide faster and more reliable cellular service to customers.

“We anticipate it will help us stay ahead of the increasing demand for wireless services, meeting the growing needs of the community for years to come,” she said.

Initiated by a notice of motion from Councillor Lawrence Lee in August 2022, the City’s administration was directed to bring back a report with the written correspondence to telecommunication providers expressing the need for stable and reliable cell service.

The City said letters were sent in September to the companies and the federal government and meetings were held with representatives.

An update was provided in October 2022 by TELUS with plans to complete the tower by the end of the year.
