Local Mounties launch billboard campaign in hopes of identifying fatal hit and run suspect

Blackfalds RCMP continue to investigate a tragic hit and run collision that occurred on July 6, 2022, south of 40 Ave at McKenzie Road, that left a 45-year-old female cyclist dead.

RCMP continue to receive and follow up on tips from the community.

However, in order to promote awareness and encourage additional tips, Crimes Stoppers, and the family of the victim have teamed up to create and post a photo of the suspect vehicle which will be erected on area billboards.

On Dec. 26, 2022, a billboard was erected on 51 Avenue (Gaetz ave) South of 52 Street in Red Deer.

On Jan. 5, 2023 a billboard was erected on 55 Avenue West of 45 Street in Red Deer.

On Jan. 9, 2023, a billboard is anticipated to be erected on Taylor Drive South of 67 Street in Red Deer.

Update #5

Blackfalds RCMP continue to investigate the tragic hit and run collision that occurred on July 6, 2022, south of 40 Ave at McKenzie Road, that left a 45-year-old cyclist deceased . RCMP have new information regarding the suspect vehicle which fled the scene of this fatal collision.

The suspect vehicle is described as:

  • 1999-2003 Mazda Protégé
  • Dark Green in colour with heavy black tint
  • Aftermarket fog lights and exhaust
  • Chrome 5 spoke rims
  • No emblems
  • Roof mounted antenna

Enclosed are photos of this suspect vehicle taken just prior to the collision.

July 20, 2022

Update #4

Blackfalds RCMP along with the RCMP Central Alberta District GIS Unit continue to investigate the fatal hit and run collision that occurred south of the McKenzie Industrial Business Park on Range Road 273 on July 6, 2022.

RCMP continue to receive tips from the public. The investigation progresses however, the RCMP have yet to identify the vehicle involved. RCMP would like to provide an updated description of the suspect vehicle based on what we know today.

The vehicle is described as:

  • A dark coloured older model sedan
  • Low end after market rims
  • A poor quality home done paint job Dark grey or black matte; poor paint job
  • Significant front end damage, specifically to the windshield

July 8, 2022

Update #3

As Blackfalds RCMP continue to investigate the fatal hit and run collision that occurred on July 6, 2022 South of 40 ave at McKenzie road they continue to reach out to the public for assistance in identifying the suspect involved.

RCMP have obtained a photo taken from local video surveillance of the suspect vehicle and ask for the publics assistance in identifying who it may belong to.

Additionally, RCMP ask the public for dash camera footage of the Gasoline alley area at approximately 6:45 p.m.

July 7, 2022

Update #2

Blackfalds RCMP continue to investigate the tragic hit and run collision that occurred on July 6, 2022 South of 40 ave at McKenzie road that left a 45-year-old cyclist deceased.

RCMP continue to look for witnesses to the collision specifically the driver and or occupants of a white coloured SUV that drove off the road to avoid a collision with the suspect vehicle near the scene.

July 7, 2022

Update #1

Blackfalds RCMP seek public assistance in locating the suspect vehicle involved in a fatal hit and run collision which occurred July 6, 2022, at approximately 6:45 p.m.

The hit and run occurred just south of 40 Ave. (RR 273) at McKenzie road. The suspect vehicle hit a 45-year-old female who was on her bicycle and then fled the scene. The cyclist was declared deceased at the scene. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends.

RCMP are still looking for the suspect vehicle, which is being described as:

  • A dark coloured sedan, potentially a BMW
  • After market rims (described as cheap looking)
  • Older model
  • Dark grey or black matte; poor paint job
  • Significant front end damage, specifically to the windshield

July 6, 2022

Blackfalds RCMP on scene at serious hit and run collision

Blackfalds RCMP are currently on scene at a hit and run collision which occurred on the extension of 40 Ave. in the Gasoline Alley area. A female on a bicycle was hit by a sedan and the driver of the sedan fled the scene.

RCMP are currently looking for this suspect vehicle and seek public assistance. At this time the vehicle is being described as:

  • A dark coloured sedan, potentially a BMW
  • After market rims (described as cheap looking)
  • Older model
  • Dark grey or black matte; poor paint job
  • Significant front end damage, specifically to the windshield
