New Swim for Life® program

Registration starts December 19 for winter programming at Ponoka Aquaplex

Dec 16, 2022 | 1:05 PM

Town officials have announced that registration for winter swimming lessons opens Monday, December 19 at 10 a.m. at the Ponoka Aquaplex.

At that time, residents can also register for advanced programming, such as Babysitting and Stay Safe courses. Citizens can register online on the Town of Ponoka’s website at www.ponoka.ca/p/aquaplex or in person at the Ponoka Aquaplex (5315 46 Avenue).

All programming will begin in early January. A full list of available swimming lessons and advanced programming can be found on the website at www.ponoka.ca/p/aquaplex. Paper copies of that list are also available at the Ponoka Aquaplex.

New Swim for Life® Programming

Starting in 2023, Town officials say all swimming lessons and advanced programming at the Ponoka Aquaplex will be delivered through the Swim for Life® program through the Lifesaving Society. The Canadian Red Cross announced earlier this year that they will discontinue their swimming lessons curriculum by the end of 2022, and it will replaced by Lifesaving Society’s Swim for Life® program.

To determine your child’s swim level in the Swim for Life® program, parents and guardians are encouraged to review the Canadian Red Cross to Swim for Life® transition chart at www.lifesaving.org/public/download/documents/53752. Paper copies of the transition chart are also available at the Ponoka Aquaplex.

If you are still unsure of your child’s skill level, the Ponoka Aquaplex offers free swim assessments during ‘Everyone Welcome Swims.’
