Charges withdrawn against Ponoka woman charged in Grande Prairie drug and weapons bust

Charges have been withdrawn against a Ponoka woman charged in a drug and weapons seizure in Grande Prairie last year.

Danica Joyce Nystrom, 27, had all nine counts against her withdrawn in Grande Prairie provincial court on June 8, 2022.

She was facing two counts of possession for purpose, and one count each of careless use/storage of firearm, unauthorized possession of firearm, possession of property under $5000, possession of weapon dangerous to public, possession of break-in instruments, possession of prohibited/restricted firearm, and fail to comply with undertaking conditions.

According to the Public Prosecution Service of Canada (PPSC), the charges against Nystrom were dropped because after the organization considered all of the available information, they concluded there was no reasonable prospect of conviction.

Both Nystrom and her co-accused, Stacey Aaron Trotter, 37, of Grande Prairie, were previously scheduled for trial in Grande Prairie provincial court on Dec. 13, 2022.

Trotter’s next court appearance, however, is scheduled for Dec. 19, 2022, in Grande Prairie.

It was on July 6, 2021, when the GP RCMP Crime Reduction Unit executed a search warrant at a home in the area of 94 Street and 121 Avenue in Grande Prairie.

Mounties say the search resulted in the seizure of 80 grams of suspected fentanyl, 75 grams of meth, five grams of cocaine, 100 prescription pills, a loaded .32 calibre revolver, 88 rounds of .32 calibre ammunition, a crossbow and $2,900 cash.

Two individuals, including one who police say was wanted on several outstanding warrants on unrelated matters, were arrested at the home.

Trotter is charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, two counts of possession of a firearm contrary to order, unsafe storage of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition at an unauthorized place, possession of property obtained by crime under $5000, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and possession of break-in instruments.
